Our Mission: To reduce the occurrence of preventable dental disease in high-risk populations and associated high costs of treatment by promoting healthy dietary and hygienic behaviors.

Our Vision: Oral health for all.

History: Burton Edelstein DDS MPH founded BerkshireSmiles in 2023 to leverage his extensive clinical, teaching, advocacy, and research experiences on behalf of people at highest risk for dental disease. A pediatric dentist by training, he has served as President of Children's Dental Associates of New London County, Senior Fellow in Public Policy at the Children's Dental Health Project in DC, Consultant to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Medicaid and CHIP Commissioner, and Professor of Dental Medicine and Health Policy at Columbia University.

To date, BerkshireSmiles LLC projects have focused on young children from socially disadvantaged families -- the MySmileBuddy program (insert link) -- and adults with developmental disabilities -- The WeSmile program (insert link).

Development of WeSmile was commissioned by the University at Buffalo with support from Delta Dental of New York under leadership of special care specialist Dr. Stephen Abel DDS MSD. The WeSmile app and LMS technology were licensed by the University at Buffalo to BerkshireSmiles LLC in 2024 (put it on the WeSmile website).

BerkshireSmiles LLC was formed in 2024 to advance the oral health of socially vunerable populations.
